Tim O’Hare Associates is a leading soil science consultancy. Our services ensure that soils for landscape, green infrastructure, sports amenity and habitat creation projects are correctly surveyed, specified, tested, sourced, manufactured and managed.
Our work actively supports leading environmental and climate change resilience initiatives including Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS), material recycling and circular economies. We frequently work alongside landscape architects, ecologists, engineers, environmental consultants and arboriculturalists.
The practice operates throughout the UK and internationally on a huge variety of projects including major infrastructure developments, housing schemes, public parks and private gardens, commercial and retail developments, sports facilities, urban regeneration schemes, green roofs, and historic restorations. Current and past projects include the London Olympic Park, Oman Botanical Gardens, Natural History Museum, RHS Bridgewater, Mayfield Park Manchester, HS2, Battersea Power Station and The Royal Parks.

Soil Science Consultant
The Position
We are currently in search of a full-time Soil Science Consultant to join our team of dedicated professionals. This opportunity would be ideal for anyone with a background in soil science, or for anyone with an interest in soils with some transferrable expertise (eg. environmental science, contaminated land investigation, ecology, civil engineering, agronomy) that is looking for a role change.
Comprehensive in-house training will initially be provided to fill in any knowledge gaps, with on-going one-to-one mentor support provided to enhance and develop the necessary skills of an all-round soil science consultant.
We are a small team who multi-tasks with a hardworking and focused approach, passionate about our reputation for quality and the exceptional service we provide. With an ever-increasing client base and varied work streams, all the ingredients are there for the right person to join our company and pursue a successful and fulfilling career. The role will be variable with site work, office work and project workshops, no two days are the same.

Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge
- Qualified to at least degree level in a relevant environmental subject (e.g. geography, geology, soil science, environmental science, ecology, agricultural science, horticultural science, civil engineering);
- An understanding of soil properties, their assessment and how they relate to soil functions would be an advantage;
- Minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience, ideally including soil surveys and/or other surveys or ground investigations, and preparing interpretive reports;
- Ideally a member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. BSSS, IAgri, SocEnv, ICE, IEMA, CIWEM);
- Familiarity with relevant Health and Safety at Work requirements (a CSCS card would be advantageous);
- Good IT literacy (MS Office and Adobe);
- Good proactive communication and organisation skills;
- Ability to produce concise written work to managed timescales and budgets;
- Take direction, support other team members as well as be comfortable with self-direction and structuring your own work load.
- Have a proactive, motivated and positive attitude.
As the role involves working on projects around the UK, a full UK driving licence and ability and willingness to drive to project locations around the UK, sometimes with overnight stays, will be required.
