Tim O’Hare
Tim is Principal Consultant at Tim O’Hare Associates, which he set up in 2006. A soil scientist for over 20 years, he covers anything from domestic garden projects to colliery restoration schemes to major construction developments, both in the UK and overseas.
Tim has sat on the British Standards Institute working group for Topsoil (BS3882) and Subsoil (BS8601) since 2005. He was co-author of DEFRA’s Code of Practice for the Sustainable Use and Management of Soils on Construction Sites (published 2009).
Tim pioneered the design and use of manufactured soils in landscape projects, including those of the London Olympics. Tim has written numerous papers and articles on topsoil quality, soil specification, tree pit design, topsoil manufacture, soil management and compost science and regularly presents papers at conferences and technical seminars, including SoilsCon, which he established in 2015.
Phil Askew
Phil is Director of Landscape Design & Management at Peabody leading on Thamesmead, London’s New Town and one of London’s largest regeneration and development projects. He has a background in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. Prior to his current role he led the design and delivery of the London 2012 Games Olympic Park at the Olympic Delivery Authority, its transformation into the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the UKs largest new urban park in over a century and all landscape and public realm for Olympic Legacy projects at the London Legacy Development Corporation.
Martin Gammie
Martin is a Chartered Forester and Fellow of the Arboricultural Assocaiton with a career spanning more than 30 years. He specialises in the integration of green infrastructure within in the built environment, developing innovative design and working practices that facilitate effective establishment and compatible longevity of trees in the urban realm. He works with the Trees and Design Action Group to produce best practice guidance documents and has recently become a founding trustee of the charity Fund4Trees, which seeks to raise funds for tree-related research and educational material.
Davy Ottevaere
Davy joined Belgium-based soil conditioning technology business TerraCottem in 2000 on graduating as a bio-engineer in soil and water management. He is now the company’s Technical Manager with responsibility for R&D and commercial customer technical support. He has co-authored a number of authoritative scientific papers and contributed to the ‘Technical guide on soil conditioning & mulching for sustainable and cost-efficient tree planting’, March 2016, within the framework of the EU funded SustAffor research project ‘Bridging effectiveness and sustainability in afforestation’.
Louisa Robinson Boyer
Louisa has been working with mycorrhiza for the last 16 years and holds a PhD in the subject from the University of Kent. She is currently working on a range of scientific projects and trials, dividing her time between NIAB EMR and Plantworks Ltd.
Tim White
Tim White studied ecology / biology and environmental science to MSc level and has been a Soil Scientist for over 18 years. He has worked on a wide variety of projects and provides soil survey and assessment services, and practical advice on issues of soil use and management for landscape purposes. Continuing his strong interest in ecology, he specialises in the use of soils for species-rich habitat creation.
Carolyn Willitts
A landscape architect with a passion for creating bold and thoughtful landscapes, Carolyn is founder of CW Studio. Having originally trained and worked as a professional theatre designer her experience brings a unique and creative approach to her designs, which demonstrate a passion for creating bespoke spaces that connect people to places. Carolyn is a regular contributor to the Landscape Institute Journal and Pro Landscaper, and is a visiting tutor for the London College of Garden Design diploma course and for Manchester Metropolitan University’s landscape architecture course.
Peter Wilder
Peter Wilder specialises in the integration of surface water management into urban and residential masterplans. His interest in terrain modelling and hydrology led him to establish his expertise in UAV survey in 2015. With the ability to be able to both map, model and design the landscape, Peter has established himself as one of the leading land planners in the UK. Peter is an associate and consultant to BRE and a visiting lecturer on SuDS and landscape technology at the University of Greenwich.
